John Hume

John Hume was a prominent Irish politician and a key figure in the Northern Ireland peace process. Born in 1937, he co-founded the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) and was instrumental in advocating for non-violent solutions to the conflict known as "The Troubles." Hume promoted dialogue and reconciliation between different communities in Northern Ireland. His efforts culminated in the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, which helped bring an end to decades of violence. Hume received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998, recognizing his commitment to peace and democratic principles. He passed away in 2020.
