Jaigirdar

A Jaigirdar was a historical title in India, referring to a landholder or noble who received a "jagir," which was a form of land grant. The jagir was awarded by a ruler, allowing the Jaigirdar to collect taxes and manage the land. In return, the Jaigirdar was expected to maintain law and order and provide military support to the ruler. This system was prominent during the Mughal Empire and influenced local governance. Over time, Jaigirdars played significant roles in the administration and social structure of Indian society before the British colonial rule altered land ownership and power dynamics.
