Jagir
A Jagir refers to a land grant given by a ruler, typically in South Asia, to an individual in exchange for services, usually military or administrative. The person receiving the jagir, known as a jagirdar, was allowed to collect taxes and manage the land for a certain period. This system was prominent during various empires, including the Mughal Empire, where it helped maintain control over vast territories by delegating authority. Jagirs played a vital role in the feudal landscape, supporting both governance and local economies.
