Jagir system

The Jagir system was a form of land revenue administration used in India, particularly during the Mughal Empire and later periods. Under this system, a jagir was a grant of land given to a noble or military leader in exchange for their services to the ruler. The jagirdar (holder of the jagir) would collect taxes from the land and was expected to maintain law and order, as well as provide military support. This decentralized method of governance allowed the rulers to extend their control while relying on local leaders for administration and revenue collection.
