Jacobite rising
The Jacobite risings were a series of uprisings in Britain during the late 17th and 18th centuries, aimed at restoring the Stuart monarchy to the throne. Supporters, known as Jacobites, sought to reinstate James II and his descendants, who had been ousted in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The most notable risings occurred in 1715 and 1745, led by figures like Bonnie Prince Charlie. These attempts ultimately failed, resulting in significant losses for the Jacobites and leading to harsh reprisals against supporters. The events significantly shaped British history, particularly in Scotland, and influenced national identity and politics.
