1745 Rising
The 1745 Rising, also known as the Jacobite Rising, was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart, a claimant to the British throne, to reclaim power for his family, the Stuarts, who had been overthrown in the early 1700s. It began in Scotland and involved a series of battles between Jacobite supporters and government forces. The rising initially gained support and successes but ultimately failed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The defeat led to severe repercussions for the Highlanders and the decline of the Jacobite cause, significantly affecting Scottish culture and history.
