Irish Republican Army

The Irish Republican Army (IRA) is a paramilitary organization that aimed to end British rule in Northern Ireland and reunify Ireland. Founded in the early 20th century, it became prominent in the late 1960s during the Northern Ireland conflict, also known as "The Troubles." The IRA was known for using guerrilla warfare, including bombings and assassinations, to achieve its goals. It sought to represent nationalist and republican ideals, often facing opposition from loyalist groups and the British government. The group formally ceased its armed campaign in 2005, transitioning to political means through the party Sinn Féin.
