International Seabed Authority
The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is an organization established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Its main role is to manage and regulate mineral-related activities in the international seabed area, which is beyond national jurisdiction. This includes overseeing the exploration and exploitation of resources like minerals and metals, ensuring environmental protection, and promoting the responsible use of seabed resources. The ISA aims to balance economic interests with environmental sustainability while ensuring that benefits are shared globally, especially with developing countries. It was established in 1994 and operates from its headquarters in Jamaica.
