International Seabed Area Law

International Seabed Area Law, part of the Law of the Sea, governs the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources in the seabed beyond national jurisdictions, often referred to as the Area. This law aims to ensure that activities in these international waters benefit all humanity, promoting environmental protection and equitable sharing of resources. The International Seabed Authority oversees these activities, issuing licenses and setting regulations to manage resource extraction while preserving marine ecosystems. Essentially, it establishes a framework to balance economic interests with the responsibility to protect the ocean for future generations.
