Hellespont
The Hellespont, now known as the Dardanelles Strait, is a narrow waterway in Turkey that connects the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara. It holds historical significance as it was the site of important events in ancient times, such as the crossing of the Persian army by King Xerxes during the Greco-Persian Wars. The Hellespont has also been associated with myths, notably featuring in the story of Hero and Leander. Today, it remains a vital navigation route for maritime traffic, linking Europe and Asia. Its strategic importance has shaped regional politics throughout history.
