Aegospotami
Aegospotami was a naval battle fought in 405 BC during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. It took place near the Hellespont, where Spartan forces, led by Lysander, decisively defeated the Athenian fleet. This defeat effectively ended Athenian naval power and led to the fall of Athens. The victory at Aegospotami allowed Sparta to cut off Athenian supply lines and laid the groundwork for the eventual Spartan dominance in Greece. This battle is significant in history as it marked a turning point in the long conflict between the two city-states.
