Glagolitic alphabet
The Glagolitic alphabet is one of the oldest known Slavic scripts, created in the 9th century by Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was developed to translate religious texts into Slavic languages and facilitate the spread of Christianity. The alphabet features unique, ornate characters, distinct from later scripts like Cyrillic, which was derived from it. Glagolitic was primarily used in the Slavic regions, especially among the Croats and the Moravians, before eventually falling out of use. Today, it serves as an important symbol of Slavic cultural and linguistic heritage.
