Ciril and Methodius

Cyril and Methodius were 9th-century Byzantine brothers from Thessalonica who are celebrated as the "Apostles of the Slavs." They played a crucial role in the spread of Christianity and literacy among the Slavic peoples. To facilitate this, they created the Glagolitic alphabet, the first writing system for Slavic languages, which later evolved into the Cyrillic script used today. Their efforts helped establish church services and literature in Slavic languages, enhancing cultural identity. Both brothers are venerated as saints by the Orthodox Church for their contributions to education, linguistics, and the Christian faith in Eastern Europe.
