Saint Clement of Ohrid was a 9th-century Byzantine scholar, missionary, and composer who played a vital role in developing the Slavic literary and religious culture. He co-founded the Ohrid Literary School, which promoted literacy, education, and Christian teachings among the Slavs, using the Cyrillic script he helped devise.
