Glagolitic script
The Glagolitic script is an ancient alphabet created in the 9th century, primarily used by early Slavic peoples for religious texts and liturgy. It was developed by Saints Cyril and Methodius to translate Christian scriptures into Slavic languages, allowing people to read religious material in their native tongue. The script features distinctive, ornate characters that differ significantly from Latin and Cyrillic alphabets. Although it gradually replaced by the Cyrillic alphabet, Glagolitic remains an important cultural and historical symbol, representing the first written form of Slavic literacy and contributing to the development of Slavic literary traditions.
