geographic atrophy

Geographic atrophy is a progressive eye condition that primarily affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp vision. It is often associated with age-related macular degeneration. In this condition, certain areas of the retina gradually degenerate, leading to a loss of vision in those spots. This results in difficulty seeing fine details or recognizing faces, while peripheral vision usually remains intact. Although there is currently no cure, early detection and management can help preserve vision and improve quality of life for those affected.
