Fovista
Fovista (also known as pegaptanib) is an eye medication used to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD), particularly the "wet" form that causes vision loss. It works by blocking a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which promotes abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina. These faulty vessels can leak fluid or blood, leading to vision impairment. By inhibiting VEGF, Fovista helps reduce this abnormal growth and leakage, stabilizing or potentially improving vision. It is typically administered via injections directly into the eye during treatment sessions.
