Gametogenesis

Gametogenesis is the process by which specialized cells called gametes are produced for sexual reproduction. In humans and many animals, this involves forming sperm in males and eggs in females. It occurs through a type of cell division called meiosis, which reduces the number of chromosomes by half, ensuring that when a sperm and egg combine during fertilization, the resulting cell has the correct number of chromosomes. This process is crucial for genetic diversity and the continuation of a species, as it combines genetic material from both parents to form new life.
