Oogenesis

Oogenesis is the biological process by which female reproductive cells, called ova or eggs, are formed. It begins before birth, with the development of special cells in the ovaries that divide to produce immature eggs. During a woman’s life, usually one egg matures each month as part of the menstrual cycle, eventually being released during ovulation. If fertilization occurs, it can lead to pregnancy. Oogenesis ensures that each egg contains the necessary genetic material and nutrients for potential development into a baby, playing a vital role in human reproduction.
