FARC
FARC, or the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, is a former guerrilla group that originated in the 1960s as a Marxist-Leninist movement. Initially focused on land reform and social justice, FARC became involved in drug trafficking and violence. Over decades, it engaged in conflicts with the Colombian government, causing significant suffering and displacement. In 2016, FARC signed a peace agreement with the government, transitioning into a political party. While the peace process aimed to end decades of violence, challenges remain, including ongoing security issues and the need for comprehensive social reforms in Colombia.
