2016 Colombian referendum
The 2016 Colombian referendum was a national vote held on October 2, 2016, to decide whether to approve a peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrilla group, aimed at ending decades of conflict. The agreement included provisions for land reform, political inclusion, and drug policy changes. Surprisingly, the proposal was rejected by a narrow margin, with about 50.2% voting against it. This outcome raised challenges for the peace process, highlighting divisions in Colombian society regarding how to address the legacy of violence and create lasting peace.
