Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia)
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), officially known as Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, was a guerrilla military organization founded in the 1960s, rooted in Marxist ideology. It aimed to establish a communist state through armed struggle against the Colombian government. Over the decades, FARC was involved in drug trafficking, kidnappings, and violent clashes, contributing to Colombia’s long-standing conflict. In 2016, FARC signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government, transitioning to a political party, reflecting a significant shift from armed conflict to political participation in the country’s ongoing peace process.
