Eustachian tube

The Eustachian tube is a narrow passage that connects the middle ear to the back of the throat. Its primary function is to equalize air pressure on both sides of the eardrum and to help drain fluid from the middle ear. This is important for hearing and overall ear health. When we yawn, swallow, or chew, the tube opens, allowing air to flow in or out, which helps prevent discomfort during changes in altitude, such as when flying or scuba diving. Blockages or dysfunction of the Eustachian tube can lead to ear pain or infections.
