Semi-circular canals
Semi-circular canals are three tiny, fluid-filled structures in the inner ear, essential for balance. They are oriented at different angles, allowing them to detect rotational movements of the head. When you move your head, the fluid in these canals shifts, bending hair cells within them. This movement sends signals to the brain, helping you maintain your balance and spatial orientation. They work alongside other parts of the inner ear and the eyes to help coordinate your movements and keep you steady, especially when you turn your head or change positions.
