Dayton Agreement

The Dayton Agreement, signed in 1995, was a peace treaty that ended the Bosnian War, which had erupted after the breakup of Yugoslavia. Negotiated in Dayton, Ohio, it established a framework for peace and the political structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina, dividing the country into two entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska. The agreement aimed to stop the violence and promote cooperation among the diverse ethnic groups in the region. It included measures for human rights, refugee return, and the establishment of a shared government. The agreement's complexity reflected the deep ethnic tensions involved.
