Civil Disobedience Movement
The Civil Disobedience Movement was a pivotal campaign in India's struggle for independence from British rule, initiated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930. It encouraged Indians to peacefully refuse to comply with unjust laws, such as the salt tax, which imposed restrictions on salt production. By promoting nonviolent resistance, participants aimed to highlight the injustices of colonial rule and garner widespread support for independence. This movement significantly raised national consciousness and united various segments of Indian society against British oppression, ultimately contributing to India gaining independence in 1947.
