CiU (Convergència i Unió)

Convergència i Unió (CiU) was a Catalan political alliance in Spain, formed in 1978, mainly between the Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) and the Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC). It aimed to represent Catalonian interests within Spain, advocating for regional autonomy and promoting a distinct Catalan identity. CiU was a significant political force in Catalonia for decades, leading in regional elections and shaping local policies. The coalition gradually dissolved in the 2010s, with its members either merging into other parties or running independently, reflecting the shifting political landscape in Catalonia regarding independence and governance.
