Chromosome X
Chromosome X is one of the two sex chromosomes in humans, the other being chromosome Y. Females typically have two X chromosomes (XX), while males have one X and one Y chromosome (XY). The X chromosome carries many genes that are important for various functions, including development and immunity. Because females have two X chromosomes, they have a backup if one is faulty, which can affect the expression of certain genetic disorders. Males, having only one X chromosome, are more likely to express X-linked conditions, since they don’t have a second X to compensate for any defects.
