
Calakmul
Calakmul is an ancient Maya city located in the jungles of southeastern Mexico, near the border with Guatemala. It was one of the largest and most significant Maya cities during its peak from 250 to 900 AD. Calakmul features impressive architecture, including towering pyramids, plazas, and intricate carvings. It was a center of political power and trade, and its ruins reflect the complexity of Maya civilization. Notably, Calakmul was home to various elite rulers and played a crucial role in the regional dynamics of power among competing Maya city-states. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
