Buddhist Lent
Buddhist Lent, known as "Vassa," is a three-month rain retreat observed by Theravada Buddhists, typically starting in July and ending in October. It commemorates the time when the Buddha and his monks would stay in one place to meditate and teach during the rainy season, avoiding travel that could harm crops. Monks often intensify their practice during this period, while laypeople may engage in meritorious activities like giving, learning, and meditating. It’s a time for reflection, spiritual growth, and community support, emphasizing mindfulness and the cultivation of positive actions.
