Vassa

Vassa is a traditional three-month Buddhist monastic retreat observed mainly in Southeast Asia, coinciding with the rainy season (typically from July to October). During this period, monks focus on intensive meditation, study, and spiritual practices, often staying in one location to avoid traveling. It’s also a time for laypeople to deepen their practice through extra offerings and ceremonies, fostering community and devotion. Vassa provides monks a purposeful retreat to deepen their understanding and practice of Buddhism, while laypeople support this effort through acts of generosity and participation in religious activities.
