Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant is a sacred chest mentioned in the Bible, believed to contain the tablets of the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God. Made of wood and covered in gold, it is often described as having angels on its lid, known as the mercy seat. The Ark symbolizes God’s presence among the Israelites and was carried during their travels in the desert. It played a central role in their worship and was housed in the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, representing a covenant or agreement between God and His people.
