Antonio José de Sucre
Antonio José de Sucre was a Venezuelan military and political leader key to South America's independence from Spanish rule in the early 19th century. Born in 1795, he became an important general in the revolutionary army alongside Simón Bolívar. Sucre played a crucial role in several battles, notably the decisive Battle of Ayacucho in 1824, which led to the liberation of Peru and solidified independence for much of South America. He later served as the first president of Bolivia. Sucre is celebrated as a national hero in several Latin American countries for his contributions to freedom and governance.
