La Patria Vieja
La Patria Vieja, meaning "the Old Homeland," was a period in Chile’s history from 1810 to 1814 marked by efforts to establish independence from Spanish rule. During this time, Chileans formed local governments, fought battles, and laid the groundwork for self-governance, driven by a growing desire for autonomy. It was characterized by political instability and ongoing conflict, but also by the development of national identity and independence movements. Ultimately, the period ended with the Spanish reconquest, prompting further struggles for Chile’s independence.
