Sucre (Bolívar)

The Sucre (referred to as Bolívar in everyday use) was Venezuela’s official currency from 2018 to 2019, named after independence leader Simón Bolívar. It aimed to stabilize the economy amid hyperinflation by introducing new banknotes and digital measures, replacing the Venezuelan bolívar. However, due to ongoing economic instability, the Sucre faced challenges and was largely phased out in favor of alternative currencies like the U.S. dollar. While initially intended to help restore confidence and control inflation, it ultimately proved insufficient, highlighting the difficulties Venezuela faced in stabilizing its monetary system during that period.
