Anglo-Afghan Wars
The Anglo-Afghan Wars were a series of conflicts between Britain and Afghanistan during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The first war (1839-1842) was triggered by Britain's desire to secure its influence in India and prevent Russian expansion. It ended disastrously for the British. The second war (1878-1880) arose from similar concerns and resulted in a more favorable outcome, with Britain gaining influence over Afghan affairs. A third conflict occurred in 1919, leading to Afghanistan's independence from British control. These wars highlighted the complexities of colonialism and the struggle for power in the region.
