Via Negativa
Via Negativa, also known as the "negative way," is an approach to understanding concepts by defining what they are not, rather than what they are. In theology, for instance, it emphasizes God's transcendence by stating that God is beyond human comprehension and cannot be fully described by positive attributes. Instead, one might say, "God is not angry," or "God is not limited," to convey the divine nature. This method can be applied in various fields, suggesting that sometimes we gain clearer insights about complex subjects by identifying their limitations rather than asserting specific characteristics.
