Apophatic Theology

Apophatic theology, also known as negative theology, is an approach that seeks to understand God by describing what God is not, rather than what God is. It emphasizes the limitations of human language and concepts in capturing the divine’s true nature, which is beyond human comprehension. By focusing on the divine’s transcendence and mystery, apophatic theology encourages humility and recognition of the divine’s ineffability, suggesting that the best we can do is acknowledge what God is not, rather than claiming to fully define or understand God’s essence.
