Union of the Crowns
The Union of the Crowns occurred in 1603 when King James VI of Scotland also became King James I of England after Queen Elizabeth I died without an heir. This event marked the first time Scotland and England were ruled by the same monarch, uniting the two crowns. Though the countries remained politically separate, this union paved the way for future collaboration and eventually led to the formal joining of Scotland and England into Great Britain in 1707. The Union of the Crowns symbolized a significant moment in British history, linking two distinct nations under one sovereign.
