U.S. District Court

The U.S. District Court is the trial court in the federal court system where federal cases are first heard. It deals with a variety of cases, including those involving federal laws, civil rights, and disputes between states or citizens from different states. Each of the 94 districts has at least one district court, and judges preside over cases, making decisions based on evidence presented. They can issue rulings on legal questions and juries often determine findings of fact. If a party disagrees with the decision, they can appeal to a higher court, typically the Court of Appeals.
