supergiants
Supergiants are massive stars, among the largest and brightest in the universe, often hundreds of times larger than our Sun. They typically have a short lifespan, ranging from a few million to a few hundred million years, because they burn through their fuel quickly. These stars can be blue, red, or yellow, depending on their temperature. When they reach the end of their life, supergiants often explode in a supernova, creating spectacular light shows and scattering elements into space that contribute to the formation of new stars and planets. Examples include Betelgeuse and Rigel.
