Red supergiants

Red supergiants are massive stars that have expanded and cooled after exhausting the fuel in their cores, giving them a large, reddish appearance. They are among the largest stars in the universe, with diameters hundreds to over a thousand times that of the Sun. Despite their size, they are relatively less dense. These stars are in a late stage of their life cycle, undergoing intense nuclear fusion that creates heavy elements. Eventually, they may explode as supernovae, dispersing their material into space to form new stars and planets. Examples include Betelgeuse and Antares.
