Strange Situation
The Strange Situation is a psychological test developed by Mary Ainsworth to assess attachment styles in children, typically between 12 to 18 months old. In this procedure, a child is observed in a series of scenarios involving their caregiver, a stranger, and separations and reunions. The child's reactions—such as distress when the caregiver leaves and joy upon their return—offer insights into their attachment style: secure, anxious, or avoidant. This method helps researchers understand how early relationships can impact emotional development and behavior later in life.
