SPF (Sun Protection Factor)
Sun Protection Factor (SPF) measures how well a sunscreen protects your skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays, specifically UVB rays that cause sunburn. The SPF number indicates how much longer you can stay in the sun without burning compared to not wearing sunscreen. For example, if you normally burn after 10 minutes, an SPF 30 sunscreen theoretically allows you to stay in the sun for 300 minutes (30 times longer). However, factors like sweating, swimming, and skin type affect effectiveness, so it’s important to reapply sunscreen every two hours and use a broad-spectrum product for comprehensive protection.
