Sokoto Caliphate

The Sokoto Caliphate was a large Islamic state in West Africa, founded in the early 19th century by Usman dan Fodio after a successful jihad aimed at reforming Islam and ending corruption. Centered in present-day Nigeria, it became one of the largest empires in Africa, promoting education, trade, and Islamic law.
