Snake venom
Snake venom is a complex mixture of proteins and enzymes produced by certain snakes to immobilize and digest their prey. It can cause severe pain, paralysis, or tissue damage in animals and humans. Venom contains various components, including neurotoxins that affect the nervous system, hemotoxins that attack blood cells, and cytotoxins that destroy tissues. Different snake species have unique venoms, adapted to their hunting and survival needs. While dangerous, some components of snake venom are also studied for medical applications, such as pain relief and blood pressure regulation. Understanding venom helps us develop antivenoms and treatments for snakebites.
