Siege of Mangalore
The Siege of Mangalore (1784–1785) was a conflict during the Second Anglo-Mysore War between British forces and the Kingdom of Mysore, led by Sultan Tipu. The British aimed to capture Mangalore, a strategic coastal city in India. Despite several assaults, the British were met with strong resistance, leading to a prolonged siege. Eventually, the British forces gained control, but the siege showcased the resilience of Mysorean defenders. The conflict ended with the Treaty of Mangalore in 1784, restoring the status quo and highlighting the intense rivalry between British colonial interests and local powers in India.
