1784 Treaty of Mangalore
The Treaty of Mangalore, signed in 1784 between Britain and Tippu Sultan of Mysore, concluded the Second Anglo-Mysore War. Under this treaty, both sides agreed to return their captured territories, restoring the status quo before the war. This agreement aimed to end ongoing hostilities in India and allowed the British to focus on consolidating their power in the region. The treaty highlighted the complexities of colonial competition and local rulers’ resistance during a time when European powers were expanding their influence in India.
