Selectins

Selectins are a type of cell surface protein that play a crucial role in the immune system. They help white blood cells stick to the walls of blood vessels during an immune response. When there is inflammation or injury, selectins facilitate the movement of these cells to the affected area, allowing them to combat infections or heal wounds. There are three main types of selectins (L-, P-, and E-selectin), each with specific functions. By enabling this targeted response, selectins help the body maintain health and respond effectively to challenges.
