Scottish feudalism

Scottish feudalism was a social system that emerged in Scotland, particularly from the 12th century, where land was owned by monarchs and granted to nobles (lords) in exchange for loyalty and service. These lords would then allow tenants (vassals) to farm portions of their land, who in turn owed the lords obligations, such as military service or rent. This hierarchical structure created a network of relationships based on loyalty and land management, shaping medieval Scottish society and governance until reforms in the 18th century began to dismantle the feudal system.
